During my time at the tomb, the chains were located about three feet from the end of the mat. One rainy afternoon a mother and young son were standing directly in front of me. As I reached the end of the mat and performed a wide heal click, did a left face and performed a second heal click. I heard the little boy ask his mother, "Is he trying to shake the water off his leg." I knew that if I could keep a straight face through that, I could do anything.Memories & Condolences

What happened to the soldier that was in the Tomb from the Vietnam War?
The remains of the Vietnam Unknown Soldier were exhumed May 14, 1998. Based on mitochondrial DNA testing, DoD scientists identified the remains as those of Air Force 1st Lt. Michael Joseph Blassie, who was shot down near An Loc, Vietnam, in 1972. It has been decided that the crypt that contained the remains of the Vietnam Unknown will remain vacant.
